The wood

The home for our Brewery. The Heaneys moved to Bellaghy in 1954 and have farmed this land since, but the next generation aren't farmers. Nope, definitely not. But we are passionate about beer. So, we're building a brewery in an inspirational place. The farm and this area already has a history, inspiring one well known Heaney to write poetry, but we want to write a new chapter in the history of The Wood. One all about grain, hops, and pure Bellaghy spring water. The finest Inspired Beer.

The story begins.

We're building a brewery

A bit about the brewery and the brewer.

"we should build a brewery"

That was in December 2014. I quit my secure full time job selling electric guitars and immersed myself in the world of beer. There followed countless books, podcasts, Youtube videos and many home-brews.  In September 2015 I volunteered to help out at the award winning Boundary Brewing Co-operative. Fate would have it that Matthew, their brewer and only employee, would break a leg in January 2016. So I stepped in. Thrown into the deep end, but the best education in brewing you could get. Now we're on the cusp of building our own brewery.

If you want to own a brewery, quit your job, live off nothing, work for free at your local brewery for 18 months. It's hard work but it's a creative and rewarding process. Making beer is an art form. I'm passionate about Heaney Farmhouse Brewery and I'm passionate about my art - Brewing great beer.  - Mal.

At Heaney Farmhouse Brewery we'll stay true to the brewer’s art.

For the farm.

Building our farmhouse brewery

We have a slice of Heaney land, a source of pure water right beneath our feet and a brewer. We want to create a home for our beers and somewhere to welcome visitors from all over, whether they are interested in beer or poetry. For now though our home is still Boundary Brewing where Mal now brews the beers for two breweries. Busy busy.

If you think you can help in any way, we'd love to hear from you.
